Retail Theft & Frauds: A Dirty Truth in UK

The Global Retail Theft Barometer – GRTP survey annually conducted by the Centre for Retail Research in Nottingham, UK yet again testifies how retail thefts and frauds are slashing down business bottom lines. This study is one of its kinds and estimated to be one of the most comprehensive and largest one in the whole world. It covers all the latest trends relating to retail shrinking and retail crime across 43 countries in the world and the services of retail security guard firms.

While shoplifting, fraud, and pre-planned retail thefts are some of the most evident facts associated with retail crimes, in-store employee thefts and customer thefts also comprise huge percentage as far as retail store crimes are concerned. In addition to these, employee errors, loss or theft of supplies, discrepancies from vendor’s end, material wear and tear, good’s rejection etc. lead to additional losses. Digital issues are no minor matters of concern either - considering high profile attacks like card skimming and data theft through wireless networks etc. Though the issues relating to retail thefts and frauds have been persisting for generations, the fact that the retail theft, frauds and other related crimes do happen cannot be further tolerated, as the stores have grown into multi-storied shopping malls. This makes them more vulnerable to retail store related crimes and also significantly increases the extent of loss as well. Retail security officers have a significant role to control the retail crimes.

Heavy losses are witnessed even for small number of product lines, especially ones that has been recently introduced in the market. Considering the widespread nature and high vulnerability from both outside and inside the stores, systems, manpower and other elements, it is extremely vital that the retail stores employ all sorts of security measures.  Security companies in London and the GRTP report also suggests that the situation could have been even worse if the retail stores all across the UK won’t have invested in security and lost prevention measures. They are being highly calculative in increasing security of high price products and increasingly tagging goods to protect against thefts. Apart from these, staff training played a huge role in controlling thefts from store visitors and vendors.

Providing CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) surveillance, alarm system, access control systems, key holding, fully trained and armed security guards and officers and various other latest technologies and facilities, London security companies are no where behind to take control of type of circumstances. From providing fully vetted assignment officers to key holding and first response services, from high security technological solutions to superb quality surveillance systems, London security companies are fully updated and upgraded to counter any sort of problem.
